THE HISTORY
of
Alessandro Archibugi & F.
At the end of the 19th century, Federico Archibugi had already begun working in the maritime sector. Later on, in the pre-World War I period, together with Alessandro Archibugi - the founder of Alessandro Archibugi & Figlio - his activity in this field became more intense. Adriano joined his father Alessandro right after the first World War, and the business grew to include trade in cereals and coal.
When business resumed in 1945 after World War II, the shipping agency Archibugi was part of a consortium of local agencies, inspired by the head of the Italmar company, Mr.Adriano Archibugi. The aim of the company was to bring about a quick and through recovery, considering the many nascent difficulties due to the presence in Ancona of the British Ministry War Transport that controlled every type of commercial venue. Later on, the Italmar company split up and each member carried on business individually. Business of all types grew up
in this period, the most noteworthy being
the construction of silos by the Ferruzzi group, for which Archibugi became the sole ship and forwarding agent. Later on, this relationship grew to also include the Angelini group that was building an important plant for processing oil seeds, thus making the business pool in Ancona a real reference point for many other initiatives (ferry and passenger lines, Ro.Ro. lines, container company lines, etc.). Events in the shipping world led the Archibugi family to buy two other important companies: Adriano e Armando Montevecchi (Lloyd's of London Agents) and Humbert Kane, which represented almost all of the Protection and Indemnity Clubs. The development of numerous initiatives on the part of important Italian businessmen, led the Archibugi company to open an office of its own in the port of RAVENNA - where it operates mainly as a shipping agency - as well as in other minor ports (ORTONA and SAN BENEDETTO DEL TRONTO). At present the Archibugi company is managed by Arrigo and Alessandro Archibugi.
